The Law of Attraction in Action

The law of attraction is real and it works. Here are two examples of how people got what they wanted by focusing their energy.
On a hot Dallas afternoon recently, I saw an example of how the law of attraction can play out in everyday life. I was getting into the car with one of my sales people to head out to an appointment. He had been fortunate enough to park in the row closest to the building, beneath a row of shade trees. A man entering the parking lot saw us as he passed our position. He screeched to a halt and began backing up. A lady had entered the lot behind him and also stopped, hoping to get our prime spot in the shade.
Was it luck or was it the law of attraction in action? Perhaps the man thought positive thoughts as he approached the building. His positive energy came back to him, rewarding him with a choice parking spot. A lady had to be inconvenienced and three people thought he was a jerk. But he was responsible solely for his own happiness, not theirs. He had looked deep within himself and determined that a shady parking spot by the door would make him happy.
Here’s another example… Years ago I worked with a young lady who left her husband and moved in with her scuba instructor. Apparently two people looked deep inside their hearts and determined that they would be happier together than they were with their spouses. If you’re keeping score, the decisions made on this one resulted in two people gaining happiness and at least four (1 ex-wife, 1 ex-husband and his 2 kids) left less happy. I guess those kids will have to learn to create more positive energy like their dad.
The “Law of Attraction" is a new name for an old philosophy. It really does work and can be used in a variety of ways. Put a picture of the big house you want on the refrigerator. Write your sales goal on a card and tape it to the dashboard of your car. If you align your life and focus your energies on the things you want, you are much more likely to get them. But once you get everything you want, you may discover an unbearable emptiness that you didn’t expect.
Many today are “looking deep within" for a spirit force or god to guide them. If you look deep within for god, I predict that you will find one that looks and thinks a lot like you. In fact the god you find inside will never ask you to do anything you don’t want to do and will always tell you to seek that which makes you happy… because, in reality, you have decided to be your own god.
As an alternative, I suggest looking outside yourself. I believe that the Spirit of God can fill a person in such a way that they sense His direction and guidance. But it doesn’t start with you and what you want. It starts with Him and what He wants. Joy and peace can be experienced, regardless of circumstances, when traveling on the road designed for you. It’s a road of contribution rather than attraction, and is never paved with the carcasses of others.

Top-level comments on this article: (5 total)Steve, I am a work in progress and seek His face daily. I believe Christ lives inside of me so I do turn within. This is why I study the Word of God to have it planted inside my heart. For me, this allows Him to give me the desires of my heart. To originate what He desires for me and when His desires become my own, His will for me is done. (Does that make sense?) This is so much easier typed than lived. It takes discipline and a spiritual desire to follow Him and not myself. He didn't take choice from us. Such an awesome God. Thank you for this insightful article. Happy Father's Day to you, too! :)Avis, Thank you for reading and commenting. I agree with everything you said. I especially like "...when His desires become my own, His will for me is done." Also, thanks for the Father's Day greeting! I felt very appreciated today. My wife's card was so touching that I almost cried and the cards from my kids made me cry from laughing so hard.
Steve, love the article. That is the best definition of the Law of Attraction I have ever read.
The title attracted me to read the article. Very interesting.
never thought of things like that, steve, but my eyes have been opened. don't know why i never thought of it before. our inner guide and our Higher Power don't necessarily have to be the same entity. thanks for pointing that out. interesting article, and i liked it. i like to learn, or be exposed to other ways of thinking, especially if i like those ways, understand them, want to adopt them, and incorporate them into my life. thanks for a good article, best regards, sue thomSusan, I'm thrilled that you found something useful in my article. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Unlike Barbara, I almost didn't read this article BECAUSE of the title! I love this part and though you couldn't hear me, I was yelling, "YES! YES! YES!" Many today are “looking deep within" for a spirit force or god to guide them. If you look deep within for god, I predict that you will find one that looks and thinks a lot like you. In fact the god you find inside will never ask you to do anything you don’t want to do and will always tell you to seek that which makes you happy… because, in reality, you have decided to be your own god.
